VespertineAugust 31, 2026Ulaanbatar, Gandan Monastery, Mongolia902 words

:It was a longer ride than expected.  But we finally made it, by Portal, to Ulaanbatar.  The reason we are here: Vespertine.  Is buddhist.  Ulaanbatar was originally settled as a monastic center for Buddhism.  In the millenia she has been reborn she has fought several battles here on the outskirts of this city.   Where it used to be nomadic settlement that chanced to a permanent one when Buddhism came now  it's a modern day city with all the trappings of a regular big city, and all the trappings of a capital city of a country.  It was about midnight when she drove up the gates of Gandantegchinlen Monastery (aka Gandan Monestery).  Founded in 1809 the temple's main feature is the 85 foot tall statue of Buddha made of copper and covered in gold.  Maybe here it's where she can find what she is looking for.  Given a room she settles down for the night....::

:: The next morning after breakfast, she enters the courtyard and watches as one of the monastery monks leads both community members and other Buddhist monks in the Tai Chi steps of the morning workout.  She looks around, finally sees the altar where one can meditate.  She skirts the edge of the courtyard, stops at the altar.  A candle is already burning but she lights another one then kneels and lowers her head to show reverence to a figure she long ago stopped believing in.  A monk comes up behind her, this is the temple leader dressed in the robes of the other monks that only thing that shows he is the monastery leader is his age and his facial tattoos.  He stands there watching her for a little bit.::

Leader:  You are a hallowed.  I'm guessing of the brother, Sidanktha since there is silence coming from the revered Sidartha himself.  What brings you here to make you believe he will answer whatever prayers you have for him.

Ves: (she doesn't turn his head to address him) I may be a follower of his brother but in losing my way in the life I am living, in the career I am following, maybe the "other brother" has an answer, a focus, a direction.  (shrugs) I thought maybe worth a shot.

Leader: How long have you followed his brother?

Ves:  Over a millenia now.  I was granted being a Hallowed by his brother.  My name is Kimber Le, a wrestler, ring name Vespertine.

(The Buddhist leader mulls his over)

Leader:  I think I was under your command at one point well over a thousand years ago.  We both changed sides.  I was fighting for his brother as were you.  This was just before you decided his brother was right all along and just before I decided to become part of the Buddha's army. (long pause) And what did you lose in the process.

Ves: (sighs) A lot of memories between millenia.  I remember Sidartha, I remember Sidanktha, I remember switching sides but having fought many battles for them, I have lost names and faces of friends, enemies, rivals.  It happens more and more when he gives me my soul back.

Leader:  For bring unable to do his bidding.  He asks a lot of you and punishes those who can't do what he asks.  (pause)  Is it, is he, worth it?

Ves:  Yes.  I can handle the memory loss and the pain that comes from getting your soul back.  What I AM here for is I'm asking a new voice, what direction I should take in my career.

Leader:  As leader of his army?  If you are asking him for battle advice, you have come to the wrong brother and you know that we are a pacifist sect, asking for war advice is against everything we believe in.  As such, we will ask you to leave.

Ves:  No, my career now is very different that what I was.  I am a wrestler.  As in like NJPW, AEW, WWE, WUK, CWF.  American wrestling more but I have heard of the undergrounds you have here.  But I'm not here for that or battle advice.

Leader:  Good, I did not want to make you leave.

Ves: Noted.  Thank you.

(He walks away and she stays kneeling at the altar.)

::Sidartha, I know I am unworthy but I also know you still watch over me. I have not talked with you in a while but since your spiritual leader knows of my status and existance and has not stopped me, I still ask your guidance.  Your bother is hard and cold.  I still believe in him though.  Probably not what you want to hear from your devoted wife of a long time ago.  It's been, what, 4 centuries since we last talked face to face, at an altar.  And a millenia since we were together as lovers.  But you've seen what I have become, what has happened to me while I wrestle.  Do I continue and in which direction?  Do you even care anymore?::

::She drops into silence and spends another half hour kneeling in meditation searching for an answer::
